Is this the same as a lab test?
No. It averages reference values for each ingredient. Only a test of your own batch shows what is really in it.

Shaded: –% as fed, which is the IS 2052 range of 20–22% on dry matter.
Fibre, fat and energy are on dry matter. Estimates from reference values, not a lab test. This checks the mix only, not the animal's whole diet.

How the estimate works
A bag label states protein in the feed as it comes, with its moisture included. That is the as-fed number, and it is the one to compare with a bag. Dry matter removes the moisture, so it reads higher for the same feed.
The calculator uses reference values for each ingredient, and real batches differ. If your supplier gives you an analysis, tap the protein figure under the ingredient and enter it instead. Mineral mixture, soda and toxin binder have no value here, so they are left out of the average and the result says so.
Reading the result
The range comes from IS 2052:2009, the Indian standard for compound cattle feed. It sets 20% crude protein for Type II feed and 22% for Type I, stated on a moisture-free basis. The calculator converts that to as-fed using the dry matter of your own mix.
Use it as a reference point for the concentrate, not as a rule for the animal. What an animal needs depends on its whole diet, including fodder, as well as its milk and stage.
From one batch to every day
DairyTrack saves the recipe, keeps its cost per kg up to date from the feed you buy and shows feed against milk for each animal, so the next change to your wanda can be judged on your own numbers.
Common questions
No. It averages reference values for each ingredient. Only a test of your own batch shows what is really in it.
This page does not answer that. It reads the mix, not the animal. Ask a nutritionist or veterinarian about a full ration.
Urea raises the crude protein figure without being protein, and too much can poison cattle. It should not be used to make a mix look stronger.
Choose Other ingredient and enter its protein from the bag or supplier. It is counted at 88% dry matter, close to the meals and grains in the list, and its fibre and fat stay unknown.
Feed prices change by place and date. A made-up default would make the cost look more certain than it is.
